2008 Youth Programs

After School Rides & Sunday Rides Starting in April!

Youth Programs

"His confidence from the first day in your camp improved dramatically. He came over, soaking wet and saying that it was awesome... Those are the words that I wanted to hear. Thank you so much!" - Parent (2008 Spring Break Camp)

We have wrapped up two weeks of Youth Spring Break Camps. Instructors, Geoff Pendrel, Katrina Strand, Jay Hoots, Lisa LeFroy, Rebecca McQueen and Dave O'Neill had a great time out on the trails with all the young rippers! The camps have been a huge success and the feedback from parents and kids has been excellent. This year we've added two new features; group photos and class cards. The Class Cards provide feedback directly from the instructors and are an excellent way for parents to track their child's progress.

Our After School Rides and Youth Sunday Rides are back! Starting the first week of April we will be offering After School Rides (Level 1) on Tuesdays and After School Rides (Level 2,3) on Thursdays. The Youth Sunday Rides happen three Sundays a month and are a great way for young riders to get out and explore North Shore Trails and meet other kids to rides with.

We will be offering our Summer Freeride Camps again, the Schedule will be posted within the next two weeks, stay tuned to EB!

Featured Rider: Kelsey Begg

Get Inspired by this 15 year-old ripper!

Kelsey Begg

I ride Vedder, Ledgview and Bear Mountain with my dad, brother and my brother's friends. At Vedder there was a steep section that I was having troubles staying under a controlled speed on, I kept retrying it until I could ride it successfully. Now knowing that I can ride that section is really cool and helps boost my confidence with other gnarly parts on the trail.

During the winter months we go out to Bear Mountain often, it's mainly where I learned to ride. That's where my dad, brother and one of my brother's friends helped me get through a tough section by spotting me. I was able to ride the course from top to bottom comfortably just in time for the Bear Mountain DH Race last year!

My goals for this season are to be able to jump and do drops more successfully and not be so intimidated when I see them on the race courses, I would like to improve my technique for cornering as well. Another goal is to compete in more races this season, I'm pretty pumped for that! My dad is helping me schedule my summer so that I can compete in as many of the BC Cup races as I can. I really would like to be able to succeed and do well in races and show everyone that mountain biking isn't just a guy sport, it's a girls sport too! I'd like to let people know that girls can do just as well and be as successful in the sport as the guys.

If it hadn't been for a mountain bike clinic a few years ago, I wouldn't have been able to meet Kelli (Sherbinin) and be where I am in biking now. I couldn't be happier that I got involved with mountain biking because it is such an awesome sport, the people involved are really laid back and supportive and it's unbelievably fun! It would be great to meet more girls that enjoy the sport too!

Do you have an inspiring story about riding that you'd like to share? We'd love to hear from other EB Members about their riding experiences, email us!

Hosted by Katrina Strand, the RHAT weekend brought together some wicked female riders on Saturna Island.

Saturna island has some awesome single track and amazing view points. With sweet accomodations, great company and some of the best weather so far this season, Kelli (Sherbinin) and the girls ripped it up! In addition to some serious riding the girls had some fun with wigs, spandex and mardi-gras beads. . .
