27- 30, 2006 Good times were had this year at Crankworx. Lots of people, tons of riding and for the most part, great weather (except for a few showers on Saturday and a chilly cold front on Sunday). Darren and I drove up on Tuesday with the EB van fully loaded with all of our gear, food and bikes along with EB's new Youth Freeride and Race Team: Eric Lawrenuk, Colton King, Chris Vanjoff and Nick DeZeeue. Heading up to all stay together in a beautiful log house just up from the village and ready to race the AirDH... the excitement was high!!
Shimano Japan Camp: w/ Endless Biking During the week, Darren and I had prepared a custom camp for the Shimano Japan crew who were out to Whistler for their first time. So we customized a Private Lesson for them and toured them on the mountain most of the week/weekend. Amongst the group we had Tazo Shimano (son of Mr. Shimano), Engineers, Designers, Marketers, Sales etc.. It was so great as it was most of the groups first time to Whistler and first time in a Downhill Mountain Bike Park. To some that may sound odd, but the freeride style of riding is very unique to our part of the world. The rest of the world is more cross country and road oriented. So the pleasure was all ours. Some of the crew stuck to b-line while others when on to Garbonzo, rippin up Freight Train and then A-Line. I love the Japanize culture. So open to learning, kind, friendly and very inquisitive. We got to see some of the new XTR 2007 product at the Shimano booth and it looks sexy. Endless Biking has been working with Shimano Canada for almost a season and by the way things went this weekend, we are becoming more and more apart of the Shimano family. Team EB hits Crankworx: For
2006, Endless Biking created a Youth Freeride and Race team (aka: Team
EB) where we selected 5 riders who we saw in the community to be talented
on their bikes, good personalities and who had an interest to be introduced
to the local races while being a part of a team.
I was invited to come out to the "Fat Tire Festival" in Eureka Springs Arkansas. The Redbull Regional manager "Uncle Jimmy" hosted the whole trip and shauffeur us around the town. Escorting him was two of Redbull Cars, with the cooler trunks filled with bottled water and redbull to meet our thirsty needs. Shaums March has been a redbull athlete for over 10 years now. Within the past 2 years he has shown redbull how important the grassroots programs are with teaching people the fundamental elements so that all levels could enjoy riding. Now Redbull and Shaums have creative "Redbull Rideon Clinics", that are giving University students the opportunity to try out mountain biking at no charge. This type of development program is really helping our sport grow. I am really grateful to be apart of this program, helping with coaching as well as part of this era in the mountain biking industry. |
